Natural destruction is a commonality. The earth runs its course– birth and rebirth, the frost of winter and the first blooms of spring. Yet for many, this destruction tarnishes the land. But fire is beautiful, it is still sublime. There is a quiet beauty in decay. The charred earth, in its velvet shades of ebony and umber, is still.
2003 witnessed Glacier National Park’s largest fire since 1910. Roughly 136,000 acres in the North Fork were charred over the course of a single summer. Fire broke out in East Glacier’s Saint Mary region in 2015, adding another burn scar to the land.
