American Mythos

The American West has long been romanticized, but beyond that smoky haze of idyllicism lies the truth of the West— forgotten altered landscapes, rusty boom town trails, and miles of river intertwined with miles of railroad. Artists like C.M. Russell depicted the West as pure, wild land, but it’s been tarnished. The idyllic Western landscape is an American fable. By contrasting paintings of the West with contemporary landscapes, American Mythos explores the dichotomy of fable and fate.
